The New Milford Chapter chose to commemorate the remarkable service which
Roger Sherman gave to his country during the Revolutionary period and the
years that followed.  Roger Sherman was born in Newton, MA, April 19, 1721, and
died in New Haven, CT on July 23, 1793.  The chapter is justly proud of the
fact that for 18 years Roger Sherman called New Milford home.  In the
thirteen colonies, he is the only signer of the four fundamental documents of
the government: Article of Association in 1774
(address to the King), Declaration of Independence 1776, Articles of
Confederation 1777, and the Articles of the Constitution 1778.
Roger Sherman Chapter was the ninth chapter of the DAR to be founded in
Connecticut.
