Established December 8, 1894, it is one of the oldest civic organizations in Windsor, CT.
Named for Abigail Wolcott Ellsworth, wife of Oliver Ellsworth, Third Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Our 18 Charter Members included several from old Windsor families:  Hayden, Loomis, Phelps; and, Mrs. Elizabeth Ellsworth, wife of Frederick, a grandson of Oliver and Abigail.
Active support of programs and projects of the NSDAR and the CTDAR:
- Building and furnishing DAR Headquarters
- Programs for new citizens
- Mountain schools
- Veterans Homes and Hospitals
Preservation and commemoration of Windsor's rich history and community life:
- Marking and preserving historical monuments
- Documenting cemetery surveys
- Genealogical research and publication
Ongoing community service:
Organized Red Cross Chapter in Windsor during WWII.
Encourage patriotism in our youth through Good Citizens and National DAR Scholarship programs.
Sponsorship of Sgt. Daniel Bissell Chapter, Children of the American Revolution (CAR).
Recognize those who teach our youth with Teacher of the Year program.
Promote the study of American history in schools by recognizing students for outstanding work in American History including
 Presenting Certificates of Award to 8th graders,
Providing AWE Chapter History Achievement Award to 12th grader,
Promoting the American History Essay Contest in grades 5 through 8, and
Promoting the Christopher Columbus Essay in grades  9 through 12.
