◊ Chapter Activities
The Abigail
Phelps Chapter is very active in the community. The goals of the DAR are
historic preservation, education, and patriotism. We have given thousands
of dollars in scholarships to area students. We sponsor the American
History Essay Contest for elementary school students. We present the DAR Good
Citizen Awards to worthy students in local high schools. We support the
ROTC program in neighboring Bloomfield, Connecticut. We provide flags at no cost to
non-profit organizations within our community. We present the Community
Service Award to men and women who have given generously of their time and
talent to improve life in our community. We donate books of historical and
genealogical significance to area libraries and especially to the DAR's
National library in Washington, D. C.
